Anticoagulant
- The medical term anticoagulant refers to medicine that slows clotting of the blood. Aspirin is considered an anticoagulants in that in addition to providing pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties, aspirin the prevents or retards the clotting of blood by poisoning platelets. Warfarin (Coumadin®) is also considered an anticoagulant prescription medication that prevents blood clots from forming in the blood and arteries.

Analgesic
- The medical term analgesic refers to that which is capable of relieving pain. With regard to medical drug treatment, analgesics refers to medicine that is used to relieve pain such as aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) or other non-aspirin pain medication sold over the counter such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen,  ketoprofen or naproxen.
